For Carpenters Who Still Give a Damn
You’ve seen it: the shortcuts, the sloppiness, the “good enough” mentality that’s become standard in the industry.
You didn’t get your Red Seal to work like that.
Southall’s Construction is different. We’re the contractor homeowners hire when they’ve been burned before and can’t afford another disaster. That means we don’t cut corners, we don’t ghost clients, and we don’t leave projects half-finished. We do the work the way it’s supposed to be done—because our reputation depends on it, and because it’s the right thing to do.
If you’re tired of working for companies that compromise on quality or treat craftsmanship like a checkbox, keep reading.
What You’ll Be Doing
You’ll lead or assist on custom homes, renovations, and projects where quality actually matters. You’ll work with a crew that respects the trade, follows through on commitments, and takes pride in what we build.
You’ll also help mentor apprentices. Passing on the knowledge and standards that someone once taught you. Because good carpenters don’t just build houses, they build the next generation of tradespeople.
Your responsibilities:
- Lead or support framing, finishing, and renovation projects from start to completion
- Collaborate with project managers, site leads, and clients to ensure quality and timelines are met
- Mentor and guide apprentices on proper techniques, safety, and professionalism
- Problem-solve on site with a focus on solutions that don’t compromise integrity
- Ensure all work meets code, passes inspection, and reflects Southall’s standards
Who You Are
An experienced carpenter who doesn’t need to be micromanaged because you already know what right looks like.
You communicate clearly with your crew and your supervisors. You can lead when needed and collaborate when it makes sense. You understand that good construction is as much about organization and planning as it is about skill with tools.
You bring:
- Current Red Seal Carpenter Certification (or equivalent documented experience)
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a professional team
- Commitment to quality, safety, and accountability on every job
- Reliable transportation (we provide transport for projects outside Cowichan Valley)
The Details
Position: Red Seal Carpenter
Hours: Full-time, year-round work (not seasonal, not sporadic. Steady.)
Location: Cowichan Valley base, with projects extending to Victoria and Nanaimo
Compensation: Competitive and based on experience (we pay for quality)Why Work Here
Because you’ll work with a team that respects the trade as much as you do. Because projects here are planned, organized, and completed the right way. Because you won’t have to explain to clients why the last guy didn’t show up or why the work was done wrong. Because we don’t operate that way.
You’ll build things that last. You’ll work on projects where the homeowner actually appreciates quality. And you’ll be part of a company that understands the difference between a contractor and a craftsman.

Not Just Another Content Gig. A Storytelling Opportunity.
Most contractors don’t understand the power of story. They post grainy photos of half-finished decks and wonder why nobody cares.
You know better. You understand that behind every beam, every foundation, every satisfied homeowner, there’s a narrative worth telling – one that builds trust, showcases craftsmanship, and turns skeptics into believers.
Southall’s Construction isn’t like most contractors. We’re the alternative to the nightmare construction experience. We’re the ones who show up, communicate, and actually finish what we start. Our reputation is built on integrity, transparency, and exceptional work. Now we need someone to capture it, shape it, and share it with the people who need to see it most.
This isn’t about making us look good. It’s about showing what good looks like.
What You’ll Actually Do
You’ll be on job sites filming the things most people never see: the precision of a perfectly square corner, the transformation of a neglected space into something beautiful, the pride on a homeowner’s face when they see their vision come to life.
You’ll interview tradespeople who take their craft seriously. You’ll capture before-and-afters that make people stop scrolling. You’ll edit short-form content that tells the truth about what professional construction looks like.
And you’ll manage our Instagram, Facebook, and digital presence. Not just posting, but planning, strategizing, and creating content that actually moves the needle.
Your responsibilities:
- Visit active job sites to document real work in progress
- Film interviews, behind-the-scenes moments, and transformation stories
- Edit and publish videos, reels, and photos that showcase quality and professionalism
- Develop and maintain a consistent posting rhythm across platforms
- Collaborate with ownership to amplify our brand values: reliability, craftsmanship, integrity
- Capture the story no one else is telling about construction done right
Who You Are
You’re not just technically skilled (though you are that). You’re someone who sees the story before the shot. You understand composition, pacing, and emotional resonance. You know how to make a construction site look compelling without sacrificing authenticity.
You’re proactive. You don’t wait to be told what to shoot. You see the moment, you capture it, you make it matter.
You bring:
- Strong visual storytelling instincts and editing expertise (Reels, short-form video, photo narrative)
- Platform fluency: Instagram, Facebook, and the algorithms that govern them
- Experience with editing tools (Premiere, Final Cut, CapCut, Canva, whatever gets the job done)
- A reliable vehicle to get to job sites across the Cowichan Valley
- Initiative. You like solving problems and making things happen without constant oversight
- Bonus: Drone certification or serious interest in aerial cinematography
The Details That Matter
Schedule: Part-time, flexible (10–20 hours/week to start, with room to grow)
Pay: $25–$30/hour based on experience (real work deserves real compensation)
Location: Based in Cowichan Valley, with projects extending to Victoria and Nanaimo (we provide transport for distance work)
Work Type: Primarily on-site filming with remote editing freedomWhy This Role Matters
Homeowners are terrified of contractors. They’ve been burned before – or they’ve heard the stories. Our content isn’t marketing fluff. It’s proof. It’s transparency. It’s the difference between a homeowner choosing us or choosing someone cheaper who’ll disappoint them.Your work will help people make better decisions. That matters.

Learn the Trade the Way It Should Be Taught
There’s a difference between learning carpentry and learning craftsmanship.
Anyone can swing a hammer. But building something that lasts (something you’re proud to put your name on ) that requires mentorship, precision, and working alongside people who actually care about the details.
Southall’s Construction isn’t a factory. We don’t rush through projects or cut corners. We do it right, even when no one’s watching. And if you’re serious about building a career in the trades, that’s exactly the kind of place you want to learn.
What You’re Actually Getting Into
You’ll work alongside Red Seal carpenters who’ve been doing this long enough to know every shortcut, and why you shouldn’t take them. You’ll learn framing, formwork, finishing, and site prep. You’ll understand not just how to build, but why we build the way we do.
This isn’t standing around watching. You’ll be hands-on from day one: carrying materials, setting up, assisting on cuts, and gradually taking on more responsibility as your skills develop. You’ll learn the difference between good enough and actually good.
Your responsibilities:
- Assist on all phases of residential and custom construction projects
- Learn framing, formwork, finishing, and site preparation under experienced mentorship
- Help maintain clean, organized, professional job sites
- Handle materials, tools, and equipment safely and efficiently
- Support senior carpenters and site leads on active builds
- Show up ready to work and learn, every day
Who We’re Looking For
Someone who wants to master a trade, not just collect a paycheque.
You don’t need experience. We’ll teach you. But you do need a solid work ethic, a willingness to listen, and the humility to learn from people who know more than you do. You need to care about quality and be the kind of person who takes pride in work well done.
You bring:
- A genuine interest in carpentry and construction as a career path
- Strong work ethic and coachability
- Ability to work safely and collaboratively on active job sites
- Valid driver’s licence and reliable transportation (transport provided for projects beyond Cowichan Valley)
- Willingness to work outdoors in varying conditions
- Commitment to showing up and showing up ready

Because the people you learn from matter. You’ll work with tradespeople who take their craft seriously, who do things the right way even when it’s harder, and who understand that teaching the next generation is part of the job.
